Liaoning Province is located in the southern part of Northeast China, bordering North Korea to the east, the Yellow Sea to the south, the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region to the west, and Jilin Province to the north. It is about 400 miles from Beijing. 沈阳, the provincial capital, is the political, economic and cultural center of Liaoning. Together with Jilin and Heilongjiang, Liaoning was a part of the greater region of Manchuria, the birthplace of Manchu people who later conquered China to establish Qing Dynasty.
