Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region is located in northwest China, bordering Inner Mongolia to the east, Gansu to the south, Xinjiang to the west, Mongolia to the north, and about 700 miles from Beijing. The provincial capital, 银川, is the political, economic and cultural center of Ningxia. Ningxia has a long history and is an important node on the ancient Silk Road, with rich historical relics and ethnic culture. The population is about 6.8 million and the annual GDP is about US$30 billion. The five major cities in the region include Yinchuan银川, Shizuishan石嘴山, Wuzhong吴忠, Guyuan固原 and Zhongwei中卫.
