Hohhot city in China is located on the high speed train line from Beijing to Lanzhou It is about 250 miles east to Beijing and 150 miles north to the border with Mongolia. Hohhot means “blue city” in Mongolian. The city has a long history and has been a settlement of grassland ethnic groups since ancient times. It developed into an important commercial center during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Nowaday, it is a modern and prosperous provincial capital. The city has a population around 3.6 millions and yearly GDP about $53.20 billions USD. The famous traditional products produced by the city are: oatmeal powder(莜面), Qingshuihe small fragrant rice(清水河小香米), mare’s milk(马奶酒), air-dried beef jerky(风干牛肉干), Wuchuan potatoes(武川土豆), Tuoxian colored rice(托县彩米), Inner Mongolia cheese(内蒙古奶酪), Huhhot baked goods(呼市焙子), Tuoxian fennel(托县茴香), and Mongolian silverware(蒙古族银器). The city also has many attractive sightseeing places like Inner Mongolia Museum(内蒙古博物院), Dazhao Temple(大召寺), Xilituzhao(席力图召), Hongshiya Ecological Tourism Area(红石崖生态旅游区), Saishang Old Street(塞上老街), Hadamen National Forest Park(哈达门国家森林公园), Yili Health Valley Tourist Area(伊利健康谷旅游景区), and Chilechuan Grassland(敕勒川草原).
