China’s diversity is reflected in culture, ethnicity, geography, development, religion, food, and many other aspects. Ancient civilization and modern development complement each other. China has 56 ethnic groups and each has its own customs. Different regions in China have different landscapes. Most cities are buzzling metropolitans, but their suburbs are filled with quiet villages. The coastal areas of the country have deltas and plains, but the inland areas have high mountains, plateaus, deserts, and grasslands. China has no state-sponsored religion. People are free to worship whatever religion they want: Buddhism, Taoism, Christianity, Islam… You can find temples, churches, and mosques in the cities as well as in the countryside. China has eight traditional regional cuisines, but there are also many other local cuisines in different regions of the country. In sum, diversity and integration show the breadth and strength of China as well as its culture.
In this section (diversity section), you can explore the maps and the following stories:
– Culture diversity – Map shows diversity in ethnicity.
– Food diversity – Map shows diversity in regional cuisines and snacks.
