Heilongjiang Province is located in the northeasternmost part of China, bordering Russia to the east, Jilin Province to the south, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region to the west, and Russian to the north and east. It is about 1,000 miles from Beijing. The provincial capital Harbin is known as the “Moscow of the East”. Heilongjiang, together with Jilin and Liaoning, was a part of the greater region of Manchuria, the birthplace of Manchu people who later conquered China to establish Qing Dynasty. It has rich historical and cultural heritage. The population is about 38 million and the annual GDP is about US$62 billion. The five major cities in the province include Harbin哈尔滨, Qiqihar齐齐哈尔, Mudanjiang牡丹江, Jiamusi佳木斯 and Daqing大庆. Heilongjiang’s main industries include energy, agriculture, manufacturing and tourism. Its unique ice and snow culture and border scenery attract a large number of tourists.
